Welcome to St Petronilla Whepstead, in the benefice of Horringer. We are a congregation committed to our witness and worship of Jesus Christ as our LORD and saviour. Our usual pattern of services are 1st Sunday of the month 11am Eucharist, 2nd Sunday of the month 8am Eucharist (BCP) 3rd Sunday of the month 11am Matins and 4th Sunday of the month 9.30 Eucharist (shared alternatively with St Andrew’s Brockley) See website service plans for worship schedules.
Aside from regular services, Congregations gather here for Plough Sunday, Easter, Harvest & Christmas services often shared with members of the Whepstead Baptist Chapel. We are Christians in community united by our faith and fellowship and welcome all people to join us in a spirit of love and hospitality. Our church is lovingly tendered by Churchwardens and PCC and is a beautiful place to visit for prayer and reflection.
As ‘The Guide to Suffolk Churches’-D. P. Mortlock (revised 2009) Lutterworth Press, states “ This church carries a unique dedication ( to Aurelia Petronilla, believed to be the daughter of Saint Peter). There was a spire until 1658 but it fell in the great storm on the night that Cromwell died. The nave and chancel are thirteenth century and the benches date from 1869.”
